Essay: The American Revolution

The American Revolution happened because the colonists didn't like paying taxes to Britain. They thought it was unfair because they couldn't vote for the people making the laws. The war started in 1775 when the British tried to take weapons from the colonists. The colonists fought back at Lexington and Concord. George Washington became the leader of the American army. The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson. It said that all men are created equal and have rights like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The colonists wanted to be free from Britain. The war was hard and many people died. But America won with help from France. The war ended in 1783 and America became its own country.
